Dave Carr Sr.

“There’s always something else you can do.” Not just the words of Dave Carr’s charge to get fellows Lions involved in the clubs mission but his passion and belief in the importance in life of helping others.  Dave has walked the talk since joining the club in 1956.  He has served The Lions Club –  in leadership positions, advisory positions, and just the plain hands on simple task for countless activities and events for 57 years.  His involvement as an active Lion extended beyond the local Saratoga Springs Club to District and Regional levels.  His list of contributions and hours of dedication are endless….. Dave Carr is a role model not only to new and current members of Lionism but for all people to follow.

On a club level Dave Carr has held every leadership and committee position.  He has served as the clubs president- vice president, & secretary……… chaired important committees for numerous years on Sight, public relations, and membership.  He has been a club director for 18 years.  Dave has also made significant contributions to The Saratoga Springs Lions club foundation, serving as President from 2003 to 2006 and Trustee emeritus.

On the district level of Lionism – Dave Carr have been the Diabetes Chair, run the New York State lions Convention on a couple of occasions and even served on committees to help other communities start Lions clubs.  Regionally he served as director of sight conservation society in Northeaster New York and as Regional Chairman for the fundraising committee for the Lions Eye Institute located in Albany New York.

Dave was vision and hard work were instrumental in the building of The Lions Eye Institute at Alabany,  a world class medical facility and research center for vision related issues.

Whether it was raising money by selling light bulbs, gumballs, chocolate rabbits or  fundraisers featuring skiing, blackjack, golf, running and biking…..Dave Carr never lost sight of the real reason and sense of purpose in his volunteer efforts- His vision has always been clear, simple and steadfast.  To help others less fortunate.

What was most important to Dave Carr, regardless of the scope of his involvement was doing not just talking about it. Dave has never been interested in spending time or concerned himself on the politics nor did he spend any energy worrying about or bragging about personal accolades or recognition.  We do need to mention that Dave Carr has earned just about every official accolade that can be bestowed by the Lions organization.  From being named the Lion of the year for the Saratoga Springs club to the highest awards of Lionism the Melvin Jones, Robert Uplinger and The Bronz Lion.
