Diabetes Awareness Info

The Saratoga Springs Lions diabetes committee has a new info area on diabetes, which offers a refreshed look with increased access to up-to-date information about the Saratoga Springs Lions Club pre-diabetes initiative.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

National Diabetes Month is observed each November, so that individuals, healthcare providers, organizations and communities can bring attention to diabetes and its influence on millions of Americans.

Raising Pre-Diabetes Awareness

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 422 million individuals worldwide have diabetes and the number continues to increase. It is expected to impact over 642 million people by 2040. Much can be done through building awareness and education–to encourage early pre-diabetes detection, improve control of diabetes and reduce the potential complications for those with diabetes.

Saratoga Lions Club and Pre-Diabetes Awareness

With these statistics and health risks in mind, the Saratoga Springs Lions Club has taken action through community efforts and events. Many people already know that Lions are dedicated to preserving sight, but you may not know that we also have an initiative for diabetes. Our work supports pre-diabetes awareness, education, prevention, detection, and control. Our website provides useful information about community diabetes education projects, resources and events. Beginning in November, we will feature a new article each month with information about diabetes nutrition, exercise, building a support network, resources and current diabetes research.

We invite you to visit our website tab often as we continue to include valuable and practical information about diabetes and pre-diabetes.
